Further, any local defects, which create surface inhomogeneity, are also detected. These defects are for instance dents, scratches, pits, etc. Local defects are further analyzed. For each flaw a number of features is determined. Time data, defect location and possible periodicity are also taken into account. These features are used to describe the defect in numerical way which can be recognized by a classifier. SURFSCAN is a system rather than device.
